..... Lemon Verbena

..... Lemon VerbenaThis highly aromatic herb is in the verbenaceae family. In some areas of the country it is grown as a perennial, but here in the Northeast we have had some luck overwintering the plant indoors, keeping it very lightly watered so the soil doesn't dry out. As it seldom sets seed, it is best propagated from softwood cuttings, or seek a local garden center who will stock or grow it. It's well worth the search!

The plant seen here was about 4 inches tall when potted early in June here in Southern Connecticut ... this is how it it looks today.

Lemon Verbena is known for its culinary uses ( great in hot or iced tea, and in a lemon-flavored tea cake - yum! ) and for its wonderful lemony scent. Totally irresistible!

If you didn't have lemon verbena in your garden this year, we suggest you add it to your "must have" list for next year's garden planning. One of the local garden centers here sells seedlings they have grown from the "mother plant". We're quite certain it will become one of your garden favorites as well.

Enjoy the scent of lemon verbena throughout the year. French milled soaps will bring the scent of the garden plant inside, available here:
