Addendum to Creative Inspiration

Fran and I took a daybreak walk to Morningside this morning.  Morningside is a little community about a block from our home that can boast of pretty, well-kept homes and a large expanse of awesome Long Island Sound coastline.

I’m no stranger to living in nature-inspired locales, having spent most of my adult life in the Hudson Valley, NY, home to the beautiful Catskill mountains.  Autumn in the valley was sublime, the colors riveting.  The rural farms and local waterways were worthy of mention as well.  No shortage of places to escape to where there were pretty things all around you.

But I would have to say, the CT coastline that we now call home offers us a peaceful, calming existence that is hard to beat.  We reached Morningside this morning just as the sun was reaching the horizon.  The range of bright yellow and orange colors was expansive and mesmerizing.  There was enough of a balmy wind that the water was quite choppy, creating a constant thrust of waves against the large boulders along the water edge.

The local birds were making their morning debut, chirping away.  I could feel a rush of spirit welling in my being!  I realized immediately that this little piece of heaven and what it offers to me on a daily basis had to be “on the list” of things that gives rise to my emotions, evokes my creativity and definitely heightens my perspective.

Home to my coffee and the start of my day, I am appreciative of one more of life’s simple pleasures, right at my doorstop.  It was going to be a productive and satisfying day!

Keeping the Hype Alive

Admittedly, I have a high energy.  I like it that way, feeling pumped, positive, on track.  Someone asked me the other day how I stay “inspired” and upbeat.  Inspired is  not a word I necessarily would use to describe myself but I did give the concept some thought.

What came first to mind was family and friends.  Their very existence in my life is my biggest source of delight.  They encourage me, motivate me, and give me reason to want to be more, and to give more to to the life I’ve been honored with.

Creative people inspire me.  They give me a deep appreciation as well as a springboard for my own thoughts and ideas.   Whether it’s a visit to a craft fair,  museum, blog, website,  show, or gallery, I never cease to be amazed at the talent that exists in our universe.  Blows me away that people continually come up with new ideas or ways to better existing ideas.

I noticed a few things at home that keep the juices flowing.

kMy books – a definite for the list  -  and the numerous articles, pages, etc. I’ve clipped over the years in a box, soon (!) to be filed!

Mission Accomplished vs. Mission Impossible

In the “Of Course, I Always Want More” department, I didn’t get to everything on my weekend TTD list (see last post).  I must say, I didn’t do too badly.  Here’s a quick recap…..

1.  All the summer clothes have been put to rest in the attic.   The closet is ready, the fall/winter clothes didn’t make it in there.

2.  Didn’t get to the Chicken with Basil Cream Sauce recipe, but did make a Chicken Soup with Fresh Herbs and Tomatoes instead.  Yum!  The weather was certainly conducive to a bowl of hot soup.

3.   I did get my garage workshop pretty well set up.  Looks great and I think it will function well.  Will post some pics soon.  I don’t know about you but I LOVE a functional workspace to play in – is that an oxymoron?

4.  Harvested and packaged some seeds in envelopes.  Am drying some tomato seeds.  Gave my neighbor some basil seeds to plant in a sunny windowsill -  there’s something nice about sharing things from the garden.

6.  Roasted tomatoes and some other vegetables.  Sure smelled good in the house.  Among the veggies I roasted were a few tomatillos.  I’ve never grown them before, and the pickins’ were few.  Next year I’ll start them inside to extend the growing season.  I have a dynamite avocado-tomatillo dip that I will share shortly.

7.  Did the pot roast – subbed buttered noodles for the smashed potatoes, and added some maple syrup to the squqash puree – one of my favs.

8.  Got all my orders up to date and sent out some surveys as well.  I do need to get some new products uploaded to the website, but just couldn’t get there.  Hard to believe it’s mid October already and I’m  seeing  “holidays”  just about every where I go.  Too much, too soon.   Gotta put a move on that.

9.  Not even a minute devoted to this one.

10.  Did spend a little time in my office/studio.  I feel like I need to get my other work done first, cause I could lose myself in there.  So easy to get into a project.  I have visions of a day when I can just grab a cup of coffee and work, uninterrupted, on projects all day – I can dream, can’t I?

The Weekend TTD List

2009
10.09

I don’t know about you but my weekend TTD (Things To Do) list begins the Monday after the previous weekend.  Some of the items on The List are off shoots of that past weekend’s items, and, as I’m sure is true for you, the list just seems to grow from there.

Here’s the TOP TEN items on this weekend’s list:

1.  Start the seasonal change-over of the clothes.  The mornings have been a bit brisk and I’ve missed having my sweaters out.

2. Harvest the rest of the garden’s basil – dry some, and make that Chicken with Basil Cream Sauce recipe that’s been patiently waiting.  If it’s any good, I’ll post it next week.

3. Set up some new shelves in the garage.  I’ve set up an area to do some projects, repairs, crafts and such.  I’ll share some pics next week, as well.

4. Take some seeds from some of the veggie plants – the malabar spinach, dill, and mustard greens are ready.

5. Bring up some more stones from the beach for the garden pathway.

6. Make some more oven-dried tomatoes and process them for the freezer.

7. Make a pot roast with smashed potatoes and butternut squash.  I’m just in the mood for an autumnal type meal.

8. Process orders from the Fab Fall Sale that’s on the website.  Check it out here:  www.thewellseasonednest.com.  The sale is going well, and I’m encouraged by the traffic.  Hopefully, the upcoming-all-too-fast holiday season won’t be a complete disaster.

9. Put a finish on a child’s wood table I purchased to house an antique dollhouse I have.  (When/If I get it done, I’ll post some pics of that, too.)

10. Work on my office/studio.  It’s a mess…  Needs some serious attention!

That’s just the Top Ten.  What do you think are my chances? What have you got going on?
